Jamal
Simmons, president of New
Future Communications, is one of the most experienced communications
professionals of his generation. He has handled media issues on
five continents for the U.S. government, political organizations,
non-profits and corporations. Whether he is setting up media tours
of corporate facilities in China or Latin America, promoting the
launch of a new beverage in print or speaking forcefully on CNN
on behalf of causes, he is well prepared to handle any problem or
opportunity.
Prior to embarking on a successful consulting
business, Simmons was a senior aide to several Democratic political
candidates, handling long term strategic planning and day-to-day
crisis management. Most recently, he was a media consultant to Florida
Congressman Tim Mahoney's successful 2006 campaign against
Congressman Mark Foley and managed a successful come-from-behind
City Council race in Atlanta. He also served as traveling press
secretary to 2004 presidential candidates U.S. Senator Bob Graham
and Retired General Wesley K. Clark.
During the 2000 presidential campaign, Simmons
managed media relations in 40 states for Vice President Al Gore
before spending four weeks in West Palm Beach as a Gore spokesman
during the Florida recount effort. Prior to that, he served as chief
of staff to U.S. Congresswoman and current Congressional Black Caucus
Chair Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D-MI) and as a political appointee
in the Clinton Administration under U.S. Trade Representative and
Commerce Secretary Mickey Kantor. Simmons got his start in politics
and communications by managing logistics for dozens of national
reporters while traveling with President Bill Clinton during his
successful 1992 campaign.
Simmons has extensive international experience
as well. Throughout the Clinton Administration, the White House
called upon him to help create and manage public events in Africa,
Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia for both President Clinton and Vice
President Gore. In spring 2004, he promoted an internationally telecast
charity concert produced by Quincy Jones in Rome and in 2007 he
was a member of the media team at Live Earth n Hamburg, Germany.
A former term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he has
been invited to share his political experiences in Europe and Asia
by the French American Foundation, the government of Taiwan and
the German Marshall Fund.
Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Simmons received
his B.A degree from Morehouse College and his Master of Public Policy
degree from the Kennedy School at Harvard University. His opinion
writings have been published in major national news outlets and
he is a frequent guest on cable and network news shows analyzing
the events of the day.
